What is a Garden Consultation?

You’ve seen our posters, heard about us on social media, or heard about us from a friend. You’ve heard we do garden consultations and wondered what on Earth is that?

Consult

A garden consultation is a one hour in-person meet up with me to discuss your gardening goals. We talk about your the space, what you want to learn, and your priorities for the garden.

We really focus on taking the frustration out of gardening by breaking it down into three keys for success, whether it is a kitchen or pollinator garden. The three keys are setup, timing, and routine.

If you are wanting to go the landscaping route, we then dive deep into these three keys for gardening success by discussing:

  • Desired Use of the Property - kids? pets? outdoor entertaining? etc.

  • Aesthetic Preferences - color schemes? lines? shapes? garden style?

  • Wishlists - pinterest ideas? favorite flowers?

  • Parameters - size of space? size of budget?

  • Maintenance - how much time a day do you want to spend tending your garden? each week? each year?

  • Education - hardiness zone, sunlight considerations, soil considerations, and layers of the planting pyramid

If you are wanting to go the kitchen garden route, we discuss:

  • Who will be using the garden?

  • Do you have kids or pets to consider?

  • What are your favorite herbs, roots, and veggies? What food are you most excited to grow?

  • Education: Intensive Planting Principles, Frost Dates, Arc of the Seasons, Knowing Your Seasons

  • Key Structures of the Kitchen Garden: Raised Beds, Trellises, Borders, and Pathways

  • Aesthetic Preferences

  • Maintenance: How much time do you want to spend in the garden daily?

  • Parameters: Size of space, amount of harvest, and size of budget

We discuss if you would like your garden to be a DIY Service or a Turnkey Installation.

Once we have discussed your gardening goals, we will make a plan for you. I’ll make recommendations on plants based on the amount of sun your space gets and overall aesthetics. We’ll create a plan based on your time and garden locations, all while keeping your budget in mind.
